Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup Update
8 February 2010, 4:49 pm
By Graham Dawson
Last weekend before the Quins V Gloucester match the final Qualifying Day of the 2009-2010 Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup took place.
50 teams from as far as Eastbourne, Chichester, Southwold and Belfast were all vying for the final few spots in the Semi Finals of this season’s record breaking competition. Over 300 teams and 8,000 people have entered and participated in the Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup this season.

The Semi Finals for the U7’s, U8’s and U9’s will be played on Saturday 20th February at the Quins V Northampton match and the U10’s, U11’s and U12’s will contest their Semi Finals on Saturday 6th March before Quins take on Worcester in the Guinness Premiership.

Commenting on the competition Harlequins Community Development Manager Ben Thurlow said “We have seen an unprecedented level of interest and participation in the Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup this season and despite the arctic weather we have managed to complete every Qualifying Day on schedule and now we can look forward to the Semi Finals. The Semi Finals will produce 8 lucky teams in each age group, who will represent their clubs here at the Stoop in the Grand Finals this spring. Thanks must go to Etihad Airways who continue to support the Community Department’s largest project and also to all our match day referees and organisers who have all helped to make the Curtain Raiser Cup such a success.”
